European Policy and Public Affairs Manager (f/m/x)

Our Communication & Marketing team is looking for an experienced European Policy and Public Affairs Manager with great people skills and a dynamic, self-starter approach.

This will be a pivotal position within our organisation, working in close partnership with the Communication & Marketing team as well as the local teams and business units to support the strategic and public affairs objectives of the business. This will be a new position at Mondi, playing a leading role in the following areas:

  • Analyze regulatory and legislative issues in Europe (at both EU and Member States levels) and their potential impact on Mondi, providing tailored information and advice to internal stakeholders as appropriate
  • Prepare briefing notes, presentations and materials in relation to relevant policy areas for Mondi’s senior leadership teams, external stakeholders and journalists
  • Lead work to define Mondi’s priorities, positioning and messaging on core policy issues
  • Provide senior counsel to and work closely with Mondi’s business units and local managers to provide direction and cohesion to public affairs activities with increased coordination and collaboration
  • Coordinate Mondi’s involvement in key trade associations on selected policy topics to support business goals
  • Act as Mondi ambassador, building and maintaining sound and stable relationships with external key stakeholders

Additionally, the European Policy and Public Affairs Manager will also play a supporting role in:

  • Annual and multi-annual planning: supporting the business units when it comes to defining future strategic priorities and work plans
  • Contribute to wider communications efforts to ensure consistency across markets and relevance to key policy audiences
  • Support Mondi’s senior leadership regarding involvement in trade associations

To support us on this exciting journey, we are looking for someone who has:

  • A university degree in political science, law, international relations, European studies, economics or another relevant field
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of policy issues and regulatory developments in areas of interest (circular economy, packaging, waste management, climate, food & agriculture, forests and biodiversity, water etc.)
  • Ideally, 8-10 years’ experience working with the EU institutions and policy stakeholders in Brussels, with an excellent knowledge of EU processes and the dynamics of EU policymaking
  • Experience working with government institutions and policy stakeholders in key Member States, including DE, AT, PL, SL, CZ, IT + UK (consideration will also be given to other Member States as and when required and to other key geographies)
  • Experience working in-house, preferably in manufacturing and/or a related sector
  • Self-starter, flexible and entrepreneurial with strong organisational and management skills, able to influence and manage different interests and drive consensus
  • The ability to operate and thrive in complex, cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams
  • A good communicator, able to express ideas in a clear and concise manner, in both written and oral forms
  • Fluently spoken and written English with additional languages a big plus (esp. German given the Vienna location)

Location: Group office Vienna

Start: at your earliest availability considering notice period, etc.

We offer a minimum compensation package starting at € 65,000 gross/year on a full-time basis (38 hours/week), with the opportunity of overpayment depending on your experience, skills and qualification.
