Job Overview
AVL is the world’s largest independent company for development of powertrains (combustion engines, hybrid systems, electric drive) as well as simulation and test systems for passenger cars, trucks and marine engines.
We offer a master thesis:
ADVANCED RUBBER MODELING FOR APPLICATION IN ENGINE OR ELECTRIC DRIVE UNIT MOUNTS
In order to meet tomorrows shortened power train system incubation times highly precise numerical simulation models are demanded. Regarding Noise Vibration Harshness investigations such simulation models call for accurate characteristics of all modelled elements up to several kHz. Rubber mounts are common to mount engines or electric drive units to the vehicle. These mounts show dependencies of their stiffness both on the frequency and the amplitude of the vibrations they undergo. This thesis uses material models to simulate rubber behaviors and to develop models for predicting engine mounts’ frequency and displacement depended characteristics.
Task:
- Literature study
- Study and application of material model in a nonlinear FEM model
- Calculation of frequency and amplitude dependent properties
- Application in typical mount designs
- Summary of the methodology and final report
Study:
- Field(s) of study: mechanical engineering, technical physics or similar
Requirements:
- Good understanding of technical dynamics and vibrations
- Finite element software basic knowledge
- Language: English or German
Remuneration: The successful completion of the thesis is a one-time fee of EUR 2.500, – gross remuneration
According to the Austrian Employment of Foreign Nationals Act it is unfortunately not possible to assign graduate work to third-country citizens (Non-EU citizens) who study at a university abroad.
